My father would always tell me to show others “what you don’t expect to keep.” I have come to understand that this is true for all aspects of my life. When on a personal journey to be healthy, telling people what you are doing will not gain popularity. The first thing you may encounter are self-made experts of whatever it is you say you are doing. If you tell them you are on a diet, they tell you how much they have lost. If you tell them you are in training to get fit, they will tell you how long it took them to train. If you tell them you are eating for good proper nutrition, they will tell you what foods they eat, where they shop for the “better fruits and vegetables” and how they prepare their foods.
Your life is yours and has always been yours. You (you personally) did not pay anything to be born. Each morning you wake up you are on a quest to BEST your own self and in doing this there will not be many , if any, who will encourage you along the way. But fear not, once you cross the finish line all of those who abandoned you will be there with their hands out, to partake in your winnings.
So know that while you continue to eat right, lose weight and get fit you may not be encouraged along the way or you may even get sly remarks of discouragement; you may even be ostracized, pay it no mind just keep moving forward. Once you cross that finish line and get your well deserved prize, you may just find that being ostracized was a blessing in disguise. You do not need to publicize or announce what you are doing, if you are sincere, everyone will know when they see you.
